Ulcerative colitis is a disease of the colon that causes inflammation and ulcers in the lining of the large intestine or colon. This disease also causes food to be inadequately absorbed.

Symptoms may include:

• abdominal pain or cramps.
• diarrhoea 
• blood in the stool
• loss of appetite
